Hornsea Local Events
A lovely traditional seaside town at the southern end of the Yorkshire coast, Hornsea has a charming seafront promenade, with a Floral Hall which hosts events throughout the year and, in the town centre, an award-winning Folk Museum complete with Victorian farm kitchen, dairy, blacksmith’s shop and gardens.
Hornsea Mere is Yorkshire’s largest freshwater lake, offering sailing, rowing, fishing and motor boat trips. At the heart of the coastal fringe of the Yorkshire Nature Triangle, the Mere also attracts an impressive array of birds including huge numbers of wildfowl and wetland specialities like bitterns and marsh harriers. A short drive inland you’ll find Tophill Low, with its population of otters and other favourites like barn owls.
And, of course, for people of a certain age Hornsea means just one thing – cups and saucers with a distinctive 70s pattern, now highly collectible. The pottery is long gone, but Hornsea still has much to offer the shopper including, on the site where the pottery once stood, Hornsea Freeport outlet shopping village, with over 30 discount stores.
